Grundtvig’s Church, Copenhagen — Nordic Architecture & Minimalism Grundtvig’s Church in Copenhagen is Nordic architecture at its most powerful. Originally designed by Danish architect P.V. Jensen-Klint and later completed by his son, Kaare Klint, the church is an extraordinary example of how simplicity, craftsmanship, material and natural light can define a space. Built almost entirely from pale yellow brick, its soaring vertical proportions and tall windows create an interior that feels both monumental and remarkably calm. Very little compares to standing inside and experiencing the changing natural light as it filters through the building. Constructed over nearly two decades with an extraordinary level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, Grundtvig’s Church is a building that demonstrates many of the principles I admire in Scandinavian and Nordic architecture: honest materials, simplicity, natural light and timeless design. For me, it is a reminder that architecture doesn't need complexity to create an emotional response. Sometimes the most powerful spaces are created through restraint.
